Educational Materials

Over the past two years, Bandada has developed materials addressing all aspects of the "Maya" train project for educational purposes. These resources include a documentary film, an exhibition, an updated brochure, and a simulation game. As of now, only the first report is accessible in English, all other educational materials are written or produced in spanish and german.

Vor Allem sind im Fokus: Die Koloniale Kontinuität, in der die Megaprojekte von heute funktionieren, das zweite Megaprojekt im Süden Mexikos namens Transistmischer Industriekorridor (CIIT), sowie der Widerstand gegen das Gigaprojekt Tren "Maya"-CIIT und seine zugehörigen kapitalistischen Projekte.

Exhibition 'Mehr als ein Zug...' (More Than a Train)

What impact do mega-infrastructure projects have on the lives of local people? How are these projects globally interconnected, and what connections do they have to Germany and Europe? Where is resistance emerging? How can community-oriented ways of life serve as alternatives within a global economy?

The exhibition "More Than a Train..." explores these questions across 16 A2 panels (also available as a PDF). QR codes link to video interviews with activists from the region.

Documentary 'Die schiefe Bahn' (The Crooked Train)

In "The Crooked Path," the diverse voices of resistance against the "Maya" train and the Interoceanic Corridor are heard. They discuss the social and ecological problems these megaprojects bring: a development policy prioritizing mining, monocultures, and industrial parks over cooperative ejidos, with a heavy emphasis on mass tourism. Additionally, the gigaproject in southern Mexico is managed by the military, making it part of the country’s militarization. The interests and demands of Indigenous communities remain unheard, and legally mandated construction halts are ignored. Yet some still hope the megaproject will improve their quality of life.

Between 2022 and 2025, the film team, in collaboration with the research collective Bandada, interviewed supporters and opponents of these megaprojects during multiple visits to the Yucatán Peninsula and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

Simulation Game 'Mehr als ein Zug'

Das Recherchekollektiv Bandada und Zwischenzeit e. V. haben auf Basis der in Mexiko gesammelten Informationen und Fotomaterialien ein Planspiel entworfen. Für uns stellt es ein geeignetes didaktisches Werkzeug dar, um die komplexen Prozesse und Situationen rund um die Megaprojekte im Südosten Mexikos lebensnah zu vermitteln.
